Connecting California: An Interactive Map of Wildlife Crossings Across the State

Wildlands Network has created the first interactive map of wildlife crossings across California. This map is, to date, a comprehensive representation of ongoing and completed wildlife crossing projects in the State as well as the priority road barriers identified by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (for more information on the top priority barriers, see here).

To use the map, toggle between layers of project status and priority road designations using the legend on the lefthand side. Users can click on each point or line on the map to see further details, such as the crossing type, project name, year completed (if relevant), and structure metrics.  

The legend also allows users to further filter by target species, construction status, and crossing type.  

This data was provided by Caltrans and developed by Conservation Science Partners as well as contributions from individuals and organizations. While this data is an aggregation of information from agencies and institutions, we recognize that some information is still missing and are continuously seeking verified and up-to-date data. We hope this map will be used to further research, identify where wildlife crossing projects and funding are needed, and feature existing and ongoing efforts to reconnect the habitats and ecosystems of California.
