Eastern Wildway Gets a Boost in Western New York

The Western New York Land Conservancy is working to make the Eastern Wildway a reality in Western New York.  The Allegany Wildlands project will protect an important 200-acre link between New York’s 65,000-acre Allegany State Park (the third largest park in New York State after the Adirondacks and Catskills)  and New York’s South Valley State Forest. Once purchased, the Allegany Wildlands will form part of the Western New York Wildway, a project the Land Conservancy initiated after discussions with and support from Wildlands Network staff.

Partnerships such as this are critical to realizing the vision of a protected, connected landscape throughout eastern North America. Allegany State Park borders the 517,000-acre Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania and, with additional State lands in Western New York and Northern Pennsylvania, efforts like those of the Western New York Land Conservancy offer the potential to connect more than two million acres of the Eastern Wildway.
