Room to Roam: Wildlife Movement and Road Ecology Webinar

  • Wildlands Network 329 W Pierpont Ave, Suite 300 Salt Lake City United States (map)

Roads are one of the largest human impacts on the earth, and wildlife movement across them not only affects wildlife survival, but the safety of motorists. In the US alone, there are over 4 million miles of roads. Join the Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter and Wildlands Network with panelists from Utah Department of Transportation and Utah’s Division of Wildlife Resources to discuss road ecology and wildlife movement in Utah and across the west. How can you help contribute to data collection? Which species are moving and migrating, in what locations, and how do we know? What projects are in the works for Utah and beyond?

About the speakers:

Blair Stringham is the DWR's Wildlife Migration Initiative program coordinator. He oversees the movement data of many wildlife species in Utah, and uses the data to improve wildlife migration. In his free time, Blair enjoys hunting, camping and spending time with his family.

Michael Dax is the Western Program Director for Wildlands Network and is located in South Fork, CO. Michael earned a Bachelor’s degree at Brandeis University and has worked in both the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Parks. He holds a Masters degree in environmental history from the University of Montana where he began work on his book, Grizzly West, which focuses on efforts to reintroduce Grizzlies to the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness in Montana and Idaho.

Nicole Nielson is the Wildlife Impact Analysis Coordinator for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR). At DWR, Nicole works to avoid and minimize impacts to wildlife including mitigation projects like wildlife vehicle collisions in Utah. Nicole loves all things outdoors but really enjoys packing into remote areas around the west with her pack string of mules and horses.

This interactive event will take place via Zoom. Once registered, you will receive instructions for how to access the webinar in your confirmation email.
