Discussing the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s recent decision to largely abandon red wolf recovery efforts, Ron Sutherland advocated for reinvesting in North Carolina’s wild red wolves in the Carolina Public Press.
According to Sutherland, however, the agency has already scaled back its oversight of the program and has failed to adapt management strategies for changing threats. For example, he said, U.S. Fish and Wildlife has suspended the release of more wolves since 2015.
“They have sacrificed their own program,” [Ron] Sutherland said.
